Symptoms to watch for
- Burning or pain when urinating
- Frequent or urgent need to urinate
- Cloudy or bloody urine
- Lower abdominal or pelvic pressure
- Back or flank pain
Come to the ER immediately if
- Fever, chills or back pain with urinary symptoms
- Nausea and vomiting
- Blood in the urine
- Symptoms during pregnancy or with a known kidney condition
How we treat urinary tract infections
Urinalysis and culture, imaging if a kidney infection or stone is suspected, IV or oral antibiotics, and fluids plus pain control for immediate relief.
