Symptoms to watch for
- Chest pressure, tightness or pain
- Palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
- Shortness of breath with exertion
- Swelling in the legs or ankles
- Fainting or near-fainting
Come to the ER immediately if
- Chest pain of any duration
- Fainting or severe palpitations
- Shortness of breath at rest
- Known heart disease with new or worsening symptoms
How we treat cardiac care
Immediate EKG, continuous cardiac monitoring, troponin and cardiac enzyme testing, chest imaging, medication to stabilize rhythm and blood pressure, and rapid transfer for catheterization when required.
